Welcome to the captivating world of Creative Writing! This course aims to ignite and nurture the writing interests of newcomers while further expanding the passion of students who are already putting pen to paper. Through exploration and exposure to various forms and elements of prose and poetry, we will embark on an enriching journey of self-expression and literary discovery.
Throughout the course, we will delve into a range of captivating topics to enhance your writing skills and knowledge. There will be an overlap with English Composition and History to reinforce core learning, allowing you to deepen your understanding of both subjects simultaneously. We will explore the history and development of different writing styles and types, gaining insights into their origins and significance. From genres of literature to various styles of poetry, you will be exposed to diverse forms of written expression, fostering your creativity and expanding your writing repertoire.
As we delve into the art of writing, we will cover essential elements such as crafting a compelling hook or introduction, understanding the basic components of a story, creating vivid setting and character descriptions, exploring the three-act structure, and constructing a satisfying ending. Alongside these topics, we will emphasize the importance of peer presentation and editing, allowing you to refine your work through constructive feedback and collaboration.
Guided by my organic teaching philosophy, the class will be interactive and engaging, tailored to the interests and needs of the students. While there is no rigid time structure, rest assured that we will cover all the essential topics in an inclusive and immersive learning environment.
This course will consist of a mixture of classroom lectures, interactive discussions, and dedicated writing sessions. My hope is that through this multidimensional approach, students will not only improve their writing skills and expand their vocabulary and knowledge but also develop a genuine passion for the art of writing.
Creative Writing is a 16-week course suitable for students aged 13 and above. Classes will be held Fridays from 10 am to 11 am. The course fee is $140 per student, reflecting our commitment to providing high-quality education at an affordable price.
Students will need a notebook and writing utensil.
